About Us
The Lincoln Alexander Advocacy Society (LAAS) is a student-led organization at Lincoln Alexander School of Law (LASL) whose purpose is to share information and opportunities related to moot, negotiation and lawyering skills. We believe that anyone and everyone at LASL should be able to learn about mooting, negotiating, and other lawyering skills in both competitive and non-competitve settings. Consequently, we are committed to creating practice development opportunities that will help students in their courses, as well as in their future careers. While ensuring that practice opportunities are available, we also hope to establish LASL as a competitive school with strong showings on the Canadian oral advocacy stages. Whether you are interested in competitive or non-competitive opportunities to learn and grow, LAAS is the place for you.
Another objective of LAAS is ensuring that students have access to resources that will help them in their classes. In 1L at LASL, students have assignments focused on client interviewing, negotiating, and mooting, all of which are skills that LAAS is prepared to help 1L’s expand. Whether negotiations, moots, or other lawyering skills arise within the classroom or in practice, LAAS is prepared to help the students at LASL feel prepared and confident in their skills and abilities.
Ultimately, LAAS aims to nourish and foster the advocacy community at LALS by ensuring that students have the opportunities and resources to help them become impactful advocates.
Testimonials
"I didn’t even know client consulting was a skill or responsibility of a lawyer until this competition. It was a great opportunity for me to learn to strategize and think on my feet. This competition allowed me to immerse in real life scenarios and gain practical skills in communication. "
Jenny (Jinock) Kim (2L)
“Participating in the Lincoln Alexander Cup (Negotiation), the McCarthy Tétrault Cup (Moot) and having the chance to represent the school at the Canadian National Negotiation Competition (CNNC) was a highlight of 1L. It provided an opportunity to learn the art of advocacy, benefit from incredible coaching, develop new skills and make wonderful friendships. Deeply grateful for the opportunity."
James Noronha (2L)
“I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to learn about negotiation and compete at CNNC because it helped me to develop confidence in my oral advocacy skills. I also really enjoyed spending time with my negotiation partner and learning how to work as a team to advocate for our clients.”
